Roll call for deceased veterans will include the names of at least 22 people at the Elk River Memorial Day celebration on Monday, May 28 at Lions Park. The program starts at 10 a.m. and in case of rain the event will move inside the Elk River American Legion.
Taps will be played for them and Alex Miller and Diane Pederson will follow it up by reading “In Flanders Field” and singing “Let There be Peace on Earth.”
From there will be the presentation of an award by the American Legion Auxiliary. Kristina Dahlin, president of the Legion Auxiliary, will present the award.
Three other awards will be presented, too. They will be from the V.F.W. Auxiliary, V.F.W. Post 5518 and the American Legion Post 112.
Melody Shryock, the V.F.W. Auxiliary president; Curt Swanson, commander of the V.F.W. post; and Brian Gardner, commander of the Legion post will present the awards. Vonni Christensen will sing “America the Beautiful.” Then Spc. Josh Stoll of the Army National Guard, who fought in the Afghanistan war, will deliver the Memorial Day address. (See page 1 for a story.)
The master of ceremonies will be Swanson, a senior master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force (retired) and Gardner, the commander of the American Legion post.
