‘Salk it to Me’ packs a punch
Salk Middle School’s 3rd Annual “Salk it To Me” 5K Run/Walk, held on May 19, attracted more than 1,000 members of the Elk River community who celebrated physical fitness by running and walking a 5K route.
The event, hosted by Salk Middle School’s physical education department, began in 2010 as an effort to promote physical fitness. The 5K is widely popular among staff, students, and the greater
community.
“This event is a great way to promote physical fitness among students and people in the community,” says teacher Ben Gustafson. “It is amazing to see how many students and families participate. To have over 1,000 runners and walkers is really something.”
Principal Julie Athman was equally impressed. “The Salk 5K has become a school-wide community building event that many look forward to participating in each year,” she said. “It takes many hands to make this event a great success. Our school community is especially appreciative of the students and parents that set aside time to participate.”
