Golf: Rogers boys end 7-for-7 in Miss. 8 meets; Rykal wins finale
The Rogers Royals golfers had three of the top five individuals as they capped their fifth consecutive championship season in the Mississippi 8 on Tuesday.
Rogers senior Jordan Rykal medaled with 73 at Riverwood National. Senior Zach Hnath tied for second at 75 with Matt Swanson of Cambridge-Isanti and Eric Waldeland of STMA. Royal junior Morgan Rask was fifth with 77. Kyle Korva added a 79 as the Royals totaled 304, with STMA second with 318.
The No. 3 ranked Royals were 7-for-7 in conference meets this year and have won 31 straight over five seasons.
Rykal secured the victory with an eagle by driving the green on the 350-yard, par-4, No. 17 hole.
Corey Muenzhuber, the Royals’ No. 1 player, sat this one out after straining muscles in his back warming up.
Next for Rogers is the Section 5AAA tournament May 31 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
•Last Thursday, the Royals placed third in a tournament at St. Cloud Country Club with 320, led by Rykal with 76 in seventh-place. Staples-Motley won with 314.
