Softball: Royals lose to Champlin Park 4-3 in 10 innings, season over

The Rogers softball season ended with a 4-3 loss in 10 innings to Champlin Park on Monday in the first round of Section 5AAA.

The Royals and pitcher Christina Hajder gave up three runs in the first inning but blanked the Rebels (14-7) the next eight innings. The Royals tied the score with two runs in the sixth.

“We played a solid defensive game and got out of some jams early,” said coch Dan Ohlgren. “We spotted them 3 runs in the first and had to battle back most of the game.”

Rebel pitcher Kate Herron gave up just five hits and struck out 12. Kara Stuckmeyer was 2-for-5 with two RBI.

The Rebels got the game-winner in the 10th after Kelsey Weimerskirch singled and stole second. Rogers third baseman Kate Kemmetmueller snagged a line drive by Courtney Potter and tried to double the runner of second, but her throw was off the mark and Weimerskirch was able to score.

Hajder allowed nine hits and four walks, and struck out three.

Hajder, Jo Baker (triple) and Megan Sharp each had a triple and RBI for Rogers. Kate Kemmetmueller and Leah Perrault had the other hits.

Rogers finished 11-10.

“All in all we had a good season and beat a lot of teams that we hadn’t beaten in a while,” said Ohlgren.
