Stanley “Stan” B. Kittelson, 89, of Elk River, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River.
He was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Nevis, Minn. to Arthur and Alice (Bergstrom) Kittelson. He was raised in Nevis where he attended public schools and graduated in 1940. He entered in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943; he served in the Pacific Theater, including Guadalcanal, Okinawa and China.
Mr. Kittelson married Mavea Julia Domrese on Feb. 8, 1947, in Minneapolis. They settled in St. Cloud, where he worked for many years in the grocery business. They later moved to Detroit Lakes and in 1999 they moved to Elk River. Since 2005 he has been living at the Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River.
Mr. Kittelson was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also known for being a “grillmaster.”
A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 16 at the Nevis Church of Christ. The Rev. Barry P. Klein was the officiant. Inurnment will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Nevis. A memorial service also will be held at the Guardian Angels Care Center Chapel in Elk River on Tuesday, May 22 at 3:15 p.m.
He is survived by his daughters, Jan (Roger) Bialke of St. Francis, and Barbe (Tom) Jansky of St. Cloud; sons, Curt (Mari Johnson) of Minneapolis, and Rick (Gretchen) of Detroit Lakes; sister, Marilyn (Dick) Rouse of Nevis; brothers, James (Barb) Shortridge of Akeley, Minn., and Perry (Marlene) Shortridge of Maplewood; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavea, and sister Audrey.
