John Weicht has died

John C. Weicht passed away peacefully at home in Elk River, MN, at the age of 64 on May 13, 2012.

He graduated from Elk River High School in 1966, served in the Army and was in Vietnam in 1967-1968.

He married Sandra Frederiksen in Askov, MN. A general contractor and humanitarian, volunteered in his community, church and for the betterment of those around him.

Awards he received: Three Rivers Community Foundation’s Hall of Fame Leadership Award, Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year, Star Steel Building Outstanding Dealer more than ten years, Elk River Volunteer of the Month, and from his Lions’ Club Melvin Jones Fellowship, Distinguished Leadership Award and was Lion of the Year twice.

John loved his family, his work, his church and his community.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandy; son, William (Michelle); daughter, Heidi (Wes) Belanger; grandchildren, Carlee, Matthew and Natalie Weicht and Randall and Tanner Belanger; brothers, Arthur (Betty), Richard (Linda), Donald (Dede Olson), Kenneth Weicht; sisters, Virginia Roberts, Mabel (Norm) Zimmer, Doris Hiller, and Gloria (Bill) Manos; and many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Weicht; brothers-in-law, Henry Hiller and Mark Roberts; niece, Cindy Weicht; and nephew, Tony Weicht.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 17 from 5-8 p.m.  at Elk River United Methodist Church, 1304 Main Street. The funeral will be held Friday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at Word of Peace Lutheran Church, 21705 129th Ave. N, Rogers. Visitation prior to service starting at 9:30 a.m. Following the service interment will be at Orono Cemetery in Elk River. Lunch will be at Elk River United Methodist Church.
