Elk River banged out 12 hits and thumped a Centennial team that’s much higher in the standings 9-3 at home Monday.
Jess Neuman, sophomore infielder, was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Elks. Jayme Langebehn (1-for-3) hit a solo homer and scored two runs.
Michaela Bruns was 2-for-4 (two runs, RBI), Kathi Opsahl 2-for-3 (double, RBI), Dani Edwards 1-for-2 (double, two runs), Jayme Langeehn 1-for-3 (RBI, two runs), and Bethani Athey 1-for-3. Sidney Schwindell knocked in three runs, going 1-for-4.
Anna Pipenhagen got the win, giving up 10 hits and three walks but just three runs, leaving 11 Cougars on base. She struck out six.
Cari Schloer took the loss as the Elks got eight runs off her in 3 1/3 innings. Kristen Nordby finished. Nikki Scott was 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI for the Cougars.
The Elks, who lost to Centennial 3-2 earlier, are now 4-7 in conference and 7-9 overall. Centennial is 10-4, all in conference.
The Elks will play at Robbinsdale Armstrong on Tuesday.
