Six RVPT alums performing with Minnesota Brass Indoor

Six former members of District 728’s River Valley Percussion Theatre performed with Minnesota Brass Indoor drumline this winter.

Kalli McConville, Blake Nelson and Morgen Schulz played cymbals in their second season with the group. In their first year were Zach Rooker (cymbals), Michelle Johnson (vibraphone) and Nick Kvalheim (marimba). All are ERHS grads except Kvalheim, who’s from Rogers.

MBI won a regional contest in Indianapolis on Feb. 19 and a state percussion contest March 31 in St. Cloud. They earned silver in a world meet in Dayton, Ohio, on April 21, among 22 entrants in the Independent Open class.

Nick Kvalheim

MBI, in its fifth year with 38 members, is an offshoot of the DCA world champion MN Brass Drum and Bugle Corps.

Schulz also served as cymbal instructor with the Eden Prairie High School drumline which won scholastic open class regionals.
