I am writing this as a warning to all pet owners in the Elk River area. We live in the city limits and have one acre of our lot fenced in. On May 2 about 10 p.m., we let our 16-year-old miniature schnauzer out to potty as we’ve done many evenings before. In the few minutes she was out there, she was carried away by some prey animal. We did not see if it was a bird of prey or a four-legged predator that took our precious dog. She was old and only weighed about 10 pounds. I would advise keeping small, older, vulnerable pets on a leash especially after dark.
Our family is saddened by this loss and would not want anyone else to lose a treasured pet in this tragic manner. — Ann Dahlheimer, Elk River
