John Joseph Guilfoyle III, 66, of Princeton, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at St. Therese Nursing Home in New Hope.
He was born Jan. 18, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John “Jack” II and Julie (Saboe) Guilfoyle. He graduated from high school and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business from Eastern Kentucky University. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. For many years, he worked in sales for the Soo Line railroad which moved his family around until eventually they settled in the Zimmerman area. Mr. Guilfoyle then worked for the Zimmerman Police Department, Sherburne County Boat and Water, and started Father And Daughter Realty. He was a member of Christ Our Light Parish and also a member of the Zimmerman American Legion.
In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin, spoiling his grandchildren, riding horses, scuba diving, listening to polka music and playing Santa Claus. He especially enjoyed going out to eat at all kinds of restaurants.
A Celebration of Life service was Friday, May 11 at the American Legion in Zimmerman. Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home of Princeton served the family.
Mr. Guilfoyle is survived by his fiancée, Betty Brenny of Princeton; son, John IV (Mary) of Austin; daughter, Ginger (Devin) Skille of Princeton; granddaughters Kelsy and Emily Skille of Princeton; brothers, Tom (Tonya) of Ohio and Mark (Vicky) of Maine; sister, Mary Pennington of Maine; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Matt.
Memorials are preferred to the Kriesel-Jacobson Post 560 American Legion in Zimmerman.
