Baseball: Royals start fast, beat Buffalo 7-5

Ryan Gelle socked a two-run triple in the first inning as Rogers opened a big early lead and hung on to defeat Buffalo 7-5 on Tuesday in Buffalo.

The Royals scored five in the firstĀ  and led 7-0 after four innings with Dillon Morris pitching. Morris, who got his first win against three losses, gave up three runs in the fifth. Buffalo got two more runs the next two innings off Kyle Ellis. Michael Terres got the last out for the “save.”

Andrew Smith was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Austin Barbeln 2-for-4 with a double and three runs, and Tyler Antony 2-for-3.

The Royals are 3-6 in conference and 5-9 overall. Buffalo dropped to 3-5 and 4-10.

Andrew Smith leads the Royals with a .442 average and 11 RBI. Will Terres is hitting .349 and Barbeln .319.

Rogers will play at Big Lake on Thursday.
