Softball: Surging Royals top STMA 8-2

The Rogers Royals pushed above the .500 mark with an 8-2 win over St. Michael-Albertville on Monday.

Christina Hajder went the distance, giving up six hits and five walks, striking out eight, and two unearned runs.

Courtney Reinitz was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hajder and Leah Perrault were each 2-for-3, and Madi Anderson, Abbie Lien and Jo Baker each 1-for-4 with an RBI.

“Good game for us being opportunistic and taking advantage of some STMA mistakes,” said coach Dan Ohlgren. “They (STMA) hit the ball well  but our defense stepped up when they needed to and got some big outs along the way for us. Hopefully we can keep the ball rolling this week.”

Rogers is 8-7 overall, after winning three straight and five of six. Over the weekend they beat North Branch 3-2 and Sauk Rapids-Rice 3-2 in a tournament at Sauk Rapids shortened by rain. They are 3-5 in conference.

Rogers will host Buffalo on Tuesday.
