We feel so lucky to live in Elk River. Our family can find education, activity and entertainment easily here.
On Saturday, April 28, my family and I were looking for something to do on a rainy day. We went to the Elk River Public Library to return books and was pleased to be educated by Spectrum teacher, Mr. Olson and his two students, Alex and John.
The classroom was all set up with displays of science education. They taught us about dinosaurs, bats, anatomy of animals and much more. The students were excited to share their knowledge with my young children and my kids were eager to listen.
We then went over to the YMCA Healthy Kids Day where my kids got to learn about and partake in healthy living with healthy treats and fun games in the gym.
Later that day we went to the Youth Theatre Workshop production of “The Wizard of Oz” at the Elk River Little Theater. Again my kids were in awe to watch talented actors and actresses of all ages perform on stage.
These opportunities were all available in just in one day in Elk River.
Later this spring and summer we have so many things to look forward to. The Taste of Elk River presented by the Rotary Club will be a lovely, annual date for my husband and me. The Concerts in the Park presented by Elk River’s Park and Recreation Department will be our Thursday night entertainment this summer. We can buy local, homegrown produce throughout the summer on Thursdays as well.
Father’s Day weekend is the annual ArtSoup art festival to entertain and inspire us located in our beautiful downtown. The Oliver Kelley Farm and our local beaches will be visited often by our family in the summer months. There is little to want for in Elk River.
Our community is rich with activities that make me proud to call Elk River, Minnesota my home. — Nicole Hahn, Elk River
