Golf: Rogers wins another M8 meet; Muenzhuber streak ends (by 1 stroke)

Corey Muenzhuber’s remarkable win streak ended Thursday despite shooting 70, while his Rogers Royals team continued to dominate Mississippi 8 golf.

Becker senior Zach Johanns fashioned a 69 on his home course, Pebble Creek, to nab the honor ending Muenzhuber’s streak of five consecutive tournament victories. Muenzhuber, top-ranked in the state, shot a 70 that would have won most meets.

Morgan Rask was right behind with 71 in third place as Rogers collected its fourth straight conference win this year and 28th straight overall. Jordan Rykal tied for fourth with 75 and Kyle Korva’s 77 was the other counter.

Rogers had 293, Becker 318, Buffalo 321, Cambridge-Isanti 321, St. Michael-Albertville 334, Big Lake 347 and Monticello 352.

“Corey had his streak of medalist honors broken even though he was 2 under,” noted coach Dan Bursheim.  “Morgan was the newsmaker, recording a 71 for his first high school round under par.”
Bursheim praised Rask, a junior, for hard work on his game and ” moving into another level of play with the best around.”

The four through six players had some solid rounds, too, as Rogers shot 300, 292 and 293 over a four-day stretch. Dylan Kline shot 81 in his varsity debut Thursday.

Next conference meet is Wednesday at Purple Hawk in Cambridge.
