Tennis: Elks’ Ness has joined 100-win club

Elk River three-sport standout Ryan Ness reached the 100-win marker in tennis last week and now has 105 after winning five matches since then.
Ness got No. 100 against Andover at home last Tuesday, teaming with fellow senior Mitchel Brandell for a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Grant Johnson and Bobby Jones.
“My teammates came up and congratulated me after we were done,” said Ness, about the 100th win, “and the next day at practice, our coach gave ice Dairy Queen bars (to celebrate).”
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound senior has a 17-0 mark for the year after winning at No. 3 singles against Champlin Park on Tuesday.
Ness is the Elk soccer career scoring leader with 60 points (29 goals, 31 assists), made all-state twice and will play college soccer. He’s also a two-year starter at guard in basketball and averaged 10 points, 3.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds as a senior.
Tennis is his third sport, and the last one he took up. He’s a four-year starter on a team that’s won conference and gone to state each year, and is 18-0 this year.
