Lacrosse: ERZ boys top Buffalo, lose to Maple Grove

The Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman boys lacrosse squad edged Buffalo 6-4 on Friday, then took an 18-1 drubbing from unbeaten Maple Grove on Monday, both on the road.

ERZ (4-4) got four goals by Ryan Heid in the win at Buffalo, with Keaton Mumm and Seth Blomgren also scoring.

They led 5-2 before Buffalo surged late in the match with two goals, then another that would have tied the game but was disallowed for being in the crease. Buffalo’s rally faded when they had an offside penalty and ERZ got an insurance goal with 1:30 left.

Maple Grove overwhelmed the Elks, who had starter Jake Brenteson in goal the first half and his back, Robert Finseth, in the second half. Brenteson had a shoulder injury and was held out as a precaution. Matt Madsen had the lone ERZ goal.

ERZ will host Anoka on Wednesday.
