Softball: Elks get early homer but lose to Sadler, Crimson 5-1

A first-inning homer by Austyn Beese got Elk River off to a good start, but Maple Grove pitcher Cayli Sadler was dominant the rest of the way as the Crimson beat the Elks 5-1.

Sadler fired a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks while the Crimson banged 12 hits off Anna Pipenhagen, who walked one and struck out four. The Elks had three errors and two of the runs were unearned.

Mandi Mauch 3-for-4 with two RBI for Maple Grove (6-1) and  Jordan Mauch 2-for-3. Sydney Smith had a single and two RBI.

The Elks will play  at Blaine on Monday.
