Sophomore Maddie Hol led Rogers with 47-50-97, followed by senior Haley Jung  53-51-104, sophomore Rachel Dodd 50-55-105 and junior Kayleen Miller 55-61-116.

It’s a building year for Rogers, said Hol, a sophomore who plays No. 1.

“We’re pretty young. We’ve only got two seniors, and a seventh grader plays sometimes,” said Hol.

“We’re just trying to get better. We  have broke 400 twice, so that’s exciting, and 200 (for nine) twice.”

For Rogers, currently holding fifth place in the Mississippi 8, the Elk River event is one of the highlights of the schedule.

“I shot 105 but had fun. It was a nice day,” said No. 2 player Dodd, the middle of three sisters who’ve golfed for the Royals. “It’s nice when it’s not a conference meet, not so serious.”

The Royals resume conference play Thursday at Becker.
