Baseball: Princeton beats Thunder 6-2 with five-run burst

The Princeton Tigers scored five runs after two out in the fifth inning and went on to defeat the Zimmerman Thunder and their ace hurler Kyle Connelly 6-2 on Tuesday in Princeton.

Zack Ludwig wen the distance for Princeton, spacing out seven hits and two walks, striking out four.

Zimmerman’s Tony Obinger slugged a two-run homer over the right-field wall for a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Connelly got the first two batters out in the fifth before Princeton strung together a rally that included two Thunder  errors and RBI singles by Ludwig and Dalton Mattson.

The Thunder had three errors leading to three unearned runs in the game. Connelly gave up seven hits and one walk, striking out two.

Princeton improved to 3-2 in the Granite Ridge and 3-3 overall. Zimmerman is 1-3 and 3-4.

The Thunder will play at St. Cloud Cathedral on Thursday.
