Baseball: Little Falls (8-0) tumbles Zimmerman 10-1

The Zimmerman Thunder took a 10-1 beating on Friday from the Little Falls Flyers, who had beaten the defending state champions the day before.

The Flyers (8-0) took a 4-1 lead against Zimmerman ace Kyle Connelly, who pitched five innings. That included a three-run homer by Spencer Fenske over the Thunder’s short right-field fence (270 feet down the line).

The Flyers, who toppled St. Cloud Cathedral in a Granite Ridge Conference showdown on Thursday, added five in the sixth on five walks and two hits.

Gabe Ploof tossed five innings for the win, allowing one run, and Nathan Masog finished with two shutout innings. Collin Eckman and Matt Stumpf had three hits each.

Zimmerman (1-2 conference, 3-3 overall) had eight hits, with Evan Bye 2-for-2 and two walks, Cory Burton 2-for-2 and Luke Schmidt 2-for-3.

The Thunder will play at Princeton on Tuesday.
