Golf: Royal boys win Miss. 8 opener, extend streak to 25
The Rogers boy golfers started their bid for a fifth straight Mississippi 8 championship with their 25th straight conference meet victory Tuesday at Pebble Creek in Becker.
The Royals shot 301, including Jordan Rykal with 75 after a closing eagle, Corey Muenzhuber 76, Morgan Rask 77 and Andy Suedbeck 79. Buffalo was next with 311.
On Rykal’s last two holes, he birdied the par 3 No. 4 hole, then hit a 300-yard drive into the wind on the par 5 No. 5 hole. His little draw from 183 yards cleared the lip of the right bunker and rolled within four feet, and his tap-in putt earned the eagle.
Matt Swanson of Cambridge-Isanti was low with 74, followed by Rykal’s 75, and Menzhuber and two Becker p layers, Billy Dingham and Zach Johanns, with 76′s.
Rogers will play in the Coon Rapids Invitational on Thursday.
