Baseball: Thunder trip Rogers 5-4 in 8 innings

Kyle Connelly scored the tying run, knocked in the go-ahead runs and got the win in relief as Zimmerman edged Rogers 5-4 on Monday in Rogers.
Alex Borchard pitched six solid innings, allowing three runs, and knocked in Connelly from second base with a two-out single in the top of the seventh to knot the score 4-4.

Connelly pitched a scoreless seventh, delivered a two-run, bases-loaded single in the eighth. He  gave up an unearned run in the last of the seventh, holding the lead. He was 2-for-5 at the plate and pitched two hitless innings with two strikeouts.

Tony Obinger had a single and three walks, Evan Bye a single and two walks (scoring twice) and Cullen Sroka was 2-for-4.

Borchardt gave up nine hits but just one walk while striking out one.

For Rogers (0-4), Will Terres was 3-for-4 (double, three runs) and Andrew Smith 3-for-4  (triple, RBI) for Rogers. Michael Terres was 2-for-3 (double, RBI) and Austin Barbeln 2-for-4 (double). Scott Neubauer pitched five innings, allowing two runs. Dylan Morris, Michael Terres and Erik Bremer finished with Morris taking the loss.

The Royals will play at Buffalo on Tuesday.

Zimmerman is 2-1 with Connelly getting all three decisions. The Thunder play at Howard Lake on Tuesday.
