Lacrosse: ERZ girls top Spring Lake Park 16-6 in opener

Three veteran attackers powered Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman past Spring Lake Park 16-6 in their girls lacrosse opener Thursday evening on the Panthers field.

ERZ junior Mackenzie Perna and freshman Emily Antony each delivered six goals, while senior Kayla Mills made six assists and flipped in three goals herself. All three were among the team’s scoring leaders last year along with Morgan Pierson, who’s now playing college lacrosse in Regis, CO.

“We will have a strong team again,” said coach Jeannette Bankes. “We should be fun to watch. Those three girls really dominated. My main worry was goaltending, but Tori Herrmann seems to be transitioning well from hockey.”

Herrmann, all-conference goalie for the hockey Elks, played most of the game, with Ariana Schneiderhan getting some minutes at the end. They faced 20 shots. Another hockey goalie, Samantha Geisler, was in the ERZ nets the last two years.

Alix Zierden notched the other goal against Spring Lake Park.

ERZ will host Andover on Monday.
