Zimmerman Thunder spring sports previews

Coaches – Kurran Sagan (head), Pete Pouliot

Coach says – “Our biggest strength will be our returning varsity players battling each other for low scores. … We are still a young team and program, so we are still trying to establish a tradition of golf in this community.”
Team goal – “We are moving from the Mississippi 8 to the Granite Ridge. … With our returning players, I think we have a chance to win our conference. Another goal is to send our whole team to the second day of the section, with a chance to send a golfer or two to state.”

Coaches – Matt Kraus (head), assistants Kevin Jost, Chris Riley, Lance Dalbey, Pat Burch (freshmen)
Opener – April 9 at Big Lake
Returning starters – Kyle Connelly (sr P-SS), Evan Bye (sr C), Takuma Padilla (sr 1B), Luke Schmit (sr CF) … Another letterman: Alex Borchardt (sr P-OF) … In the mix – Tony Obinger (sr 3B), Cody Burton (sr IF), Cullen Snoka (jr 2B), Brandon Sevre (jr OF-P), Trey Gabrielson (jr OF), Ethan Lunning (sr OF), Holland Fenstermacher (jr OF)
Coach says – “We have good leadership, good ace on the staff (Connelly), solid behind the plate … Can we match last year’s offensive production? We came on late and had nine guys finish above .300 last year. We have a good nucleus and need some players to step up and fill our voids. Talking to our captains, we believe, if we are willing to work hard, we can get over that hurdle and maybe get to state this year.”

Coaches – Emily Zahn (head), Roger Anderson (assistant), Nicole Cantu (JV), Monte Bloom (9th)

Opener – April 9  Monticello

Returning starters – Carlie Lage (8th), Ashley Ryding (fr), Gabby Antolak (so), Heather McCormick (jr).
Also back on varsity – Taylor Kroll (jr), Morgan Feldick (jr), Katelyn Bauer (jr)

Coach says – “We are becoming a much more athletic program.  Quite a few girls can excel at multiple positions.  A lot of girls (especially the younger ages) worked very hard in the offseason to improve. We will be a very young team. However, our athleticism and the game experience will help us.  I have high hopes for this group if they continue to work hard and stay focused.”
