Police Report: Arrest made in knife waving, UFOs spotted

Arrest made in knife waving
A 54-year-old Elk River man was arrested for domestic assault on March 18 after officers received a report that he allegedly displayed a knife to his wife. The suspect had left the residence prior to police arriving, but was located at Elk River High School and arrested.

Noises in Lions Park draw attention, calls
During the morning of March 18 officers were called to the Lions Park area  in Elk River after three separate callers reported hearing shots.  One caller thought they saw a muzzle flash, but other witnesses thought it was fireworks. Police did not locate the source of the noise.

Elk River man, 24, cited for improper turn
A  24-year-old Elk River man was cited for no proof of insurance and improper turn on March 18 after turning onto Jackson Avenue from School Street in Elk River. The driver agreed to and passed field sobriety tests after officers smelled alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to having a couple beers, but was not impaired.

Elk River man, 42,  arrested for DWI
A 42-year-old Elk River man was arrested for DWI after a traffic stop in the area of Highway 10 and 173rd Avenue in Elk River at about 1 a.m. on March 18.

Fridley woman, 24,  arrested for DWI
A 24-year-old Fridley woman was arrested for DWI after being stopped for speeding near the 19200 block of Highway 169 in Elk River shortly after midnight on March 18.

Elk River man, 48,  arrested for DWI
A 48-year-old Elk River man was arrested for DWI at about 10 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day after failing to yield, nearly striking a squad with its emergency lights activated as it was making a u-turn at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Main Street. The driver was arrested for 4th-degree DWI.

Juveniles cited for theft from Walmart
Two juveniles were cited for shoplifting makeup  items on St. Patrick’s Day at Walmart in Elk River. Both were 14-year-old Elk River girls.

UFOs spotted may have been birds
A 17-year-old Big Lake girl called police shortly before 2 a.m. on March 17 because she thought she saw unidentified flying objects circling the Sonic Drive-In in the 200 block of Carson St. in Elk River. The officer spoke to the girl on the phone who later believed that the objects were just white birds.

Injury crash sends one to hospital
A  personal injury crash reported at the intersection of 181st Avenue and Tyler Drive in Elk River on the morning of March 16 sent one female to the hospital with rib pain.  A 37-year-old Elk River woman was cited for inattentive driving.

East Bethel man cited for revoked license
A  22-year-old East Bethel man was cited for driving after revocation and no insurance on March 15 after being stopped on Highway 10 in the area of County Road 15 for failure to signal a lane change and because the owner had a revoked drivers license.

Coon Rapids man, 18, takes video games
An  18-year-old Coon Rapids man was cited for shoplifting after allegedly taking two video games from Walmart in Elk River on March 15.
