Delegates to a convention set for Saturday, March 24, in Elk River will decide who gets the Republican endorsement for an open seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Three known candidates are in the running: Nick Zerwas, Christopher Kumpula and Chad Westberg. All three are from Elk River.

They are seeking the seat in House District 30A, which includes Elk River, Big Lake and a sliver of Otsego. Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer, R-Big Lake, is the incumbent but she is running for an open Senate seat in the new Senate District 30.

Kiffmeyer said delegates to the March 24 convention in Elk River will have a number of tasks before them including endorsing in the Senate 30 and House 30A races, setting a local party structure and electing officers.

The convention will be held at Salk Middle School and begins at 9 a.m.
