division of the Shiver Elk River chili contest.

Shane Hague, meanwhile, was the winner of the amateur division of the chili contest.

Members of the community were the judges of the contest. They were able to go around to all 12 chili vendors to get samples and weigh in on the vote.

This year’s contest was held right at Lake Orono where all the activity was centered this year. Last year it was divided between Lake Orono, the Handke Pit and Lions Park. This year it was mostly at Lake Orono with the hockey tournament at Handke once again.

It sounds like there will be a third annual event, as organizers are already talking about how to build on this year’s success.

Members of the Shiver Elk River Steering Committee were Jennifer Wagner, Don Carlson, Debbi Rydberg, Don Deppa, Victoria Berg, Trisha Mowry, Dusty Bredlow, Don Horvath, Lynn Caswell, Ben Bauman, Robin Skinner, Molly Hanson, Joy Nadeau, Jennifer Mueller, Kari Steinbrecher and Cathy McManus.
