Iris May Kangas, 78, of Annandale, formerly of Elk River, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Annandale Care Center.
She was born Dec. 17, 1933, to Emil and Amy (Anderson) Zerbe.
She married Leonard Kangas on Sept. 27, 1952. In the summer of 1965, she and her family moved to Minnesota from Tripoli, Wis.
Mrs. Kangas was an avid gardener and homemaker who loved watching birds, baking, canning and caring for her husband and children.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Sunday, March 11) at 1:30 p.m. at the Roseville John Rose Ice Arena (Rose Room), 2660 Civic Circle Drive, Roseville, with Elder John Cocomise presiding.
Mrs. Kangas is survived by her husband of 59 years, Leonard, of Annandale; sons, John W. (Janelle) of Bolingbrook, Ill., Allan L. of Milltown, Wis. and Michael T. (Andrea) of Elk River; daughters, Cynthia L. (Steve) Nelsen of Roseville, Nancy J. Stanley of Waite Park, Susan M. Jacobson of Nekoosa, Wis., Laura J. Kangas of St. Cloud, and Sarah L. (Jeff) Skrove of Zimmerman; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Ida M. (Benjamin) Brown of Tomahawk, Wis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Brian; brothers, Paul D., Leslie, Christ, Dale, David and Robert Zerbe; and sisters, Rosalia (Sonia) Schwartz and Betty D. Albrent.
