Basketball: Royal boys secure share of Miss. 8 crown with rout of Bluejackets 73-46

The Rogers Royals are conference champions in boys basketball for the first time, sharing the honor with St. Micheal-Albertville.

The Royals secured their share of the title with a 73-46 conquest of Cambridge-Isanti on Friday evening, finishing 10-2 in Mississippi 8 play, same as STMA.

The Royals split with both STMA and third-place Buffalo during the season.

Senior center Michael Schreiber led the victory with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Josh Turnquist delivered 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots, while Chase Cleveland tallied 12 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Austin Barbeln added 7 points.

Tom Selz scored 11 to lead the Bluejackets (3-23).

Rogers (18-8 overall) will now compete in Class 4A for the first time, starting Tuesday in  a  wide-open Section 8AAAA field with the rare distinction of all eight teams having winning records. Pairings are not announced yet and one team (Moorhead) still has a game to play on Saturday.
