Basketball: Elks repel Armstrong 73-67, finish tied for 4th in conference

The Elk River Elks closed the regular season with a 73-67 victory over Robbinsdale Armstrong at home on Friday evening, clinching a winning record for the season and a fourth-place finish in the conference.

Elk sophomore center Clay Elrod hit 20 points and senior guard Ryan Ness chipped in 17. Junior guard Porter Morrell had 9 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds.

Konnor Goettsche led the Falcons with 20.

The Elks are 14-12 overall and finished 12-8 in the Northwest Suburban, tying for fourth place. Osseo at 19-1 was champion by a margin of six games (see standings below).

The Elks have a good chance for a home game to open  Section 8AAAA playoffs on Tuesday. It’s a wide-open fieldwith the rare distinction of all eight teams having winning records.  Pairings are not announced yet and one team (Moorhead) still has a game to play on Saturday.

Elrod finished the regular season averaging 18.1 points, followed by Porter Morrell 13.3, Ryan Ness 10.67 and Tucker Morrell 9.5.
