Otsego residents Dawn and Dion Grover are the owners of Boondox Bar and Grille. When their family business was hit by the recession and was forced to close its doors, they got to thinking about opening a restaurant. When everything began to fall into place allowing them to begin a restaurant in Otsego, it was like a dream come true.

“I love working in restaurants. Being around people is one of my passions,” said Dawn, who has worked in the restaurant industry since she was a teenager.

The name of their restaurant came from Dawn’s childhood where she grew up on a farm “in the boonies” as she calls it. The name appealed to them as catchy and fun and so the name Boondox Bar and Grille was born.

A family-friendly menu of burgers, wings, Juicy Lucys, salads, sandwiches, pizza and a few house specials will be offered as well as a full bar selection. They plan to unleash a signature Boondox Burger that is currently being kept under wraps. The majority of the menu items will be under $10 so that their restaurant will be an affordable dining option for families.

Seasonal activities are also being planned, such as a volleyball league and broomball for the winter of 2012–13. Bean bag toss, horseshoe pits and fire pits with an outdoor patio will also be available during the warm months. An indoor game room featuring dart boards and shuffleboards will also be available, as well as a private dining room that can hold up to 30 people.

Dawn and Dion are open to suggestions from community members for new things to include at their restaurant such as events or entertainment.

“We want this to be a fun and exciting experience for everyone and look forward to creating a community-based restaurant that people enjoy coming to,” said Dawn.
