Basketball: Elks trip Champlin Park 82-72, end 6-game skid

Three sharpshooters combined for 69 points as Elk River snapped a six-game losing streak with an 82-72 conquest of Champlin Park at home Tuesday evening.

Junior guard Porter Morrell poured in 26 points, shooting  9-for-13 on field goals.

His brother, senior guard Tucker Morrell, sniped for 19, hitting 4-for-9 on 3-pointers.

Sophomore post Clay Elrod laid in 24 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the floor and 7-for-7 at the line.

The Elks, whose six-game skid included five close conference games, three of them overtime,  trailed 35-29 at the half. But they broke loose for 53 in the second half.

The Elks got back above .500 at 13-12 overall with one regular-season game left. They are 11-8 in conference and will host Armstrong in the Northwest Suburban final on Friday.

J.T. Gibson scored 22 points and Matt Juneau 17 for Champlin Park (11-8 conference, 15-10 overall).
