Basketball: STMA tips Royal girls 58-51 in Miss. 8 finale

St. Michael-Albertville held off the Rogers Royals 58-51 in the Mississippi 8 finale on Friday evening, and both teams now look ahead to the Section 8AAAA tournament starting Tuesday.

Christine Thorn netted 16 points, and Jordan Hansen and Natalie Van Whye 12 apiece, for the Knights (19-7 overall), who finished second in conference at 10-2, behind Buffalo.

Jordyn Motter sank 13 points for Rogers. Taylor Anderson added 9.

The Royals (11-15 overall) finished fourth among seven teams at 5-7.

The Knights made 20 of 30 free shots while Rogers was just 9-for-15.

QRF rankings indicate Rogers would get the fourth seed and host Moorhead on Tuesday but that’s unofficial.
