Basketball: Elk boys come up just short again, 66-63 at Maple Grove

Elk River dropped its sixth straight game, and fifth straight that went down to the final seconds, on Friday evening, with Maple Grove holding off the Elks 66-63.

Porter Morrell notched 19 points and 7 rebounds for the Elks. Clay Elrod sank 16 points and Ryan Ness 11.

Brycen Wojta led Maple Grove with 19 and James Morris chipped in 16.

Maple Grove ruled the rebounding 32-20 and made 21 of 26 free shots while the Elks were 9-for-12.

The Elks are back to .500 overall at 12-12 with two conference games left. They are 10-8 in conference after losing five straight, three of them in overtimes.

Maple Grove is  11-7 in conference and 13-10 overall.

The Elks will host Champlin Park on Tuesday.
