Basketball: Royal boys trip Buffalo 65-56, stay in contention
The Rogers Royals stayed contention for the Mississippi 8 title by toppling co-leader Buffalo 65-56 on the Bison court on Friday evening.
Michael Schreiber, the Royals 6-8 center, poured in 23 points on 10-for-13 shooting, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 3 assists.
Rogers and Buffalo (who’ve split) are now 7-2 in the Mississippi 8, with St. Michael-Abertville leading at 8-1.
Josh Turnquist sank 13 points, all in the second half, for Rogers (15-6 overall). Austin Barbeln sniped for 12 points. Chase Cleveland had all nine of his points in the first half, helping Rogers take a 29-25 lead.
Ethan Freer netted 15 points and Caleb Ruter 12 to lead Buffalo.
Next for Rogers is a game at Irondale on Tuesday.
