Hockey: Elk boys close conference with 8-0 win over North Metro

Elk River closed its regular season with a 8-0 rout of North Metro at home Thursday evening, finishing fifth among 11 teams in the Northwest Suburban.

The Elks have been seeded No. 4 in Section 7AA and will open at homeĀ  against Cloquet-Esko-Carleton on Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Andrew Zerban notched three goals for the Elks. TheĀ  sophomore forward leads the team with 23 goals, with Jared McLaughlin and Nick McCormack next with nine each.

Wyatt Ege delivered two goals and two assists, while McLaughlin, Peter Jones and Chase Springman notched one goal each.

Backup goalie Mac Berglove made 13 saves after starter Anders Franke played briefly and made one save.
