The Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman gymnasts, split into three for sectionals Saturday, will try land some individuals in the state tournament as team titles are out of sight.
“Our Rogers team should score 135 to 138, maybe 139, and Elk River could be anywhere from 132 to 136,” said coach Jenn Bartlett about the two entities that will compete in Section 8AA at Apollo.
Zimmerman, competing as a team for the first time, in 5A at Big Lake, should score around 115, she said.
In 8AA, St. Cloud Tech has been in the upper 140’s and Apollo also over 140. Rogers was champion of another section the last two years when they had state champion Sabrina Hoover. This year Rogers was moved into a section with Elk River, so the longtime teammates will compete against each other at section for the first time.
Of the Elks top three performers, two are with Rogers, Leah Perrault (two-time state qualifier) and Alyssa Walton. Rogers also has Katie Fleck, Katie Hartneck, Corynn Stelflug, Courtney Burch, Kendra Hambleton, Sydney Fay, and Ashley Stewart.
Alana Embury will lead the Elk group that also has Jess Sadlowski, Lindsey Koosman, and Krista Kovar.
Zimmerman has Stephanie Delong, Lexi Stepan, Maddie Roisum, Molly McChesney , and Spectrum’s Anna Starika, who’ve been competing on JV’s.
Bartlett will coach the Elks and Royals while assistant Joleen Winkleman will coach the Thunder.
