The Elk River wrestlers closed a difficult regular season with a lopsided win Thursday evening, 60-10 over a sparse Park Center team.

The Elks had five pins, and got four forfeits from the last-place Pirates (0-10).

The Elks finished 3-6 in the Northwest Suburban, and will take a 5-14 overall record into sectionals.

“It’s been tough, because we had just three starters back, but all these young kids have gotten valuable experience that can only help us next year,” said coach Paul Nelson, who’s had varsity rookies at a majority of weights all season.

Next is the Section 7AAA dual meet tournament on Friday at St. Michael-Albertville, with the Elks facing Cambridge-Isanti in the first round. After that, the Elks will host the section individual tournament Feb. 24-25.
