Keifenheim honored for volunteer efforts

Elk River Mayor John Dietz shook hands with Mary Keifenheim, Elk River Volunteer of the Month for January.

Mary Keifenheim has been honored as the Volunteer of the Month for January by the city of Elk River.

Her contributions include:

•volunteering at the CAER food shelf in Elk River since the first year it opened 30 years ago.

•being a Gifts Anonymous volunteer for 25 years and coordinating the program for eight years.

•serving two terms on the Elk River Library Board and has been a library volunteer.

•chairing an effort to beautify the downtown area by planting trees and shrubs.

•volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program.

The Elk River City Council honored Keifenheim at the Feb. 6 council meeting, where Mayor John Dietz presented her with a plaque.

“We certainly appreciate your service,” Dietz told her.
