Basketball: Eden Prairie outshoots Elks 71-63

Three-point accuracy was Eden Prairie’s big edge as the No. 7 ranked Eagles beat the Elk River Elks 71-63 on Monday evening at ERHS.

The Eagles (14-5) nailed 8 of 14 from outside the arc while the Elks (12-7) were 7-for-25.

The Elks trailed by as much as 51-31 but kept got within 69-61 as they kept hustling and started hitting from outside. But the deep, talented Eagles were always in control.

Sander Mohn, a 6-4 guard, sank 22 points for the Eagles, hitting 3-for-4 on three’s, and 6-7 center Jordan Peterson added 19 points.

Porter Morrell, Elk junior guard, pumped in 22  points, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor and 3-for-3 at the line.

Sophomore center Clay Elrod scored 14, most of them late in the game. Senior forward Coleman Hayes added 9 points, shooting 4-for-5 on field goals, including a 3-point play.

The Elks will play at Blaine on Friday evening.
