Basketball: Thunder boys beat Flyers 71-66 in rematch; Connelly sinks 26
Torrid shooting by Kyle Connelly carried the Zimmerman Thunder to a 71-66 win over Little Falls on Friday evening in a duel of conference contenders on the Flyers court.
Connelly, a senior guard, poured in 26 points, shooting 9-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-6 on 3-pointers, and 4-for4 at the line.
The Thunder (14-4) squared accounts with the Flyers (13-5), having lost to them 105-85 at home in December.
St. Cloud Cathedral is 7-1, Zimmerman 6-1 and Little Fallsl 5-2 in Granite Ridge Conference play.
The 26-point burst was a career-high for Connelly, whose previous high was 15. He is averaging 10 points, and his 3-point percentge is .366.
Caleb Lunning chipped in 12 points, Gavin Doppler 10, Nate Christensen 7, Ethan Lunning 6, and ake Wilson 6. The Thunder were 8-for-20 on three’s, and 17-for-26 on free shots, with Doppler 6-for-6.
Thomas Small sank 23 points and Matt Valentine 18 for the Flyers.
The Thunder are back in action Saturday afternoon, hosting Hibbing at 2 p.m.
