Hockey: Rogers boys trail 3-0 but overtake Bluejackets 5-3
The Rogers Royals trailed 3-0 but stormed back to defeat Cambridge-Isanti 5-3 and stay unbeaten in the Mississippi 8 on Saturday on the Bluejackets’ ice.
After a scoreless first period, C-I’s Brennan Olsen, Colton Miller and Jordan Locken stunned the Royals with goals past Robby Vukelich in the first four and a half minutes of the second period.
Rogers snapped out of it after Neal Smith got them on the board at 7:22 of the second. The wild second period heated up even more as Kyle Korva, Parker Veith and Smith again scored for a 4-3 lead.
Smith’s second goal came on a power play and Zach Hnath notched another power play goal at 3:29 of the third period.
Rogers outshot the Bluejackets 39-19 as they posted their 18th consecutive conference victory.
Jared Knutson was in goal for the Bluejackets, 1-4 in conference and 5-14 overall.
The Royals (12-5-1 overall) are 5-0 in conference this year. STMA is 3-0 and Buffalo 4-3. The Royals will host STMA on Tuesday.
