Firefighters battle blaze then take on ERPD in game of boot hockey

Elk River Parks and Recreation is reporting on its Facebook page that Elk River Fire won the annual boot hockey game between its department and the Elk River Police Department.

Elk River Fire Chief John Cunningham confirmed this in an interview with the Star News.

The game was held Saturday afternoon — after firefighters knocked down a house fire in the 600 block of Proctor Ave.

“We had the perfect excuse if we didn’t win,” Cunningham said of his tired firefighters, providing perfect fightin’ words for next years battle.

Incidentally, Elk River Fire was called out again later that night for a fire at Goodwill. By the time they had arrived, and an Elk River Police officer had extinguished the fire. For reports on both fires, see www.erstarnews.com.
