Metro area employers who are looking for teenage employees for summer and beyond and would like to participate in the sixth annual Teen Job Fair on March 24 at Hennepin County Library — Minneapolis Central, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, need to register by Feb. 24. Registration is required, limited, and free. To register, call Cynthia Matthias at 612-543-8044.
The Teen Job Fair on Saturday, March 24, noon–3 p.m., offers employers a great opportunity to screen many teen job hunters in a short period of time. Organizations and small businesses as well as chains with locations throughout the metro area are invited to participate. A 6-foot table, chairs, and free WiFi are provided for employers.
The fair is open to teens ages 14–19. Last year, about 1,000 teens participated.
It’s a “one-of-a-kind event where (employers) can connect with a diverse range of young people eager to get started building employment experience,” an employer who participated last year commented.
The fair welcomes anyone offering part-time, full-time, seasonal paid positions, or volunteer positions and internships, as well as organizations that offer job training and job search assistance.
Businesses and organizations who attended last year include the Mall of America, Conservation Corps of Minnesota, Cub Foods, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the City of Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development, achievempls, and Minneapolis Workforce Centers’ Youth Zone.
There also will be free workshops for teens at the Teen Job Fair. Kate Trigger from Minneapolis Workforce Centers’ Youth Zone will present “Get a Job Now.” A panel discussion entitled “Who We Hire” will feature staff from participating businesses and organizations offering tips on completing job applications, interview skills and how to find job leads.
