Hockey: Elk boys rally to tie Centennial 3-3

The Elk River Elks scored twice in the third period and battled Centennial to a 3-3 tie at  home Thursday evening.

Down 3-1, Jared McLaughlin got a goal assisted by Nick McCormack 32 seconds into the period, and McCormack would score with just 1:13 left unassisted.

Centennial’s Hans Gorowsky delivered a power play goal in the first period and Andrew Zerban did the same for the Elks early in the second.  It was Zerban’s team-leading 16h goal.

Centennial pushed ahead with Ryner Gorowski and Joe Hess scoring, the latter a shorthanded goal, in the second.

Centennial had 40 shots and the Elks 39, each getting three in the overtime. Anders Franke had 37 saves for the Elks and Brian Anderson 36 for te Cougars.

One 10-minute misconduct was called on Centennial’s Cal Miska in the first period. The Elks’ Andrew Zerban was called for boarding, a five-minute major,in the third period.

The Elks are 9-7-2 overall and 6-4-1 in conference. Centennial is 9-7-2 and 8-3-1.

The Elks will  play at Blaine on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
