Basketball: Elk boys nip Armstrong 62-59 in OT

Elk River is now 6-for-6 in close conference games after slipping past Armstrong 62-59 in overtime Tuesday evening in Robbinsdale.

Clay Elrod led the victory with 26 points. The 6-foot-5 sophomore center shot 8-for-13, including 4-for-5 on three’s, and 6-for-6 at the line.

The Elks are 8-2 for second place in the NWSC and 10-5 overall. They’ve won all six conference games that went down to the last few seconds, two of them overtime.

Osseo leads the NWSC at 9-1. (Due to a score that was incorrectly reported, we listed Osseo with two losses last week).

The Elks missed the final shot of regulation and went OT at 54-54. Late in the overtime, Elrod sank two free shots to open a 62-59 lead and Armstrong missed a desperation shot at the horn.

Guards Tucker and Porter Morrell added 11 points apiece
Armstong outrebounded the Elks 33-25, and had Nick O’Hara and Mitchell Biewen with 12 points each, Cyrus Moore-Brown 11 and Noble Fahnbulley 10.

Elk River will play at Centennial on Friday.
