Jolene Jorgensen was elected chairwoman of the Elk River Area School Board Monday night at the Elk River Area School Board’s annual organizational meeting.

Jorgensen is an at-large director on the seven-member School Board. She was elected in November 2006 and reelected in 2010.

Jane Bunting was elected vice-chairwoman of the School Board by her peers, and Holly Thompson was elected clerk/treasurer.

All three votes of the School Board were done on unanimous votes.

Sue Farber, the chairwoman of the School Board for the past three years, did not seek the nomination for the position. She remains a director on the board.

Members of the School Board also modified their committee assignment structure at its organizational meeting to include fewer assignments and a system of getting regular updates from adminitrators.

Board members will receive weekly e-mail updates from administrators and will meet with one District 728 administrative director on a roatating basis twice a month as full board to get caught up on the work of the school district.

These meetings will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month before regularly scheduled School Board work sessions at the District Office.
