Hockey: Elk girls cruise 5-0 at Duluth

Elk River-Zimmerman probably wrapped up the top seed in sectionals with a 5-0 rout of Duluth on Friday evening in Duluth.

Elk senior Jonna Curtis knocked in two goals and assisted on the  other three, giving her 34 goals for the season.

Also scoring goals were Cassey  Petrich (power play), Chelsey Petrich, and Jordan McLaughlin. Cassey Petrich made two assists, and McLaughlin and Emily Heid one each.

The Elks (16-3-1) had a 37-18 edge in shots, with Tori Herrmann in goal for the shutout.
The defending Section 7AA champion Elks finished 3-0 against section rivals from the Iron Range.

Duluth (7-13-1) is a combined team of the Duluth schools.

Next for the No. 7 ranked Elks is a conference showdown at No. 2 ranked Anoka on Tuesday. In the NWSC Anoka is 12-1, the Elks 11-2 and Centennial 11-3.
