Basketball: Royal boys tumble Big Lake 80-65, tie for lead

The Rogers Royals got the balance they’re always seeking and pummeled the Big Lake Hornets 80-65 on Friday evening as the Mississippi 8 race tightened.

Leading Rogers (10-5) as usual were senior center Michael Schreiber netted 22 points and senior forward Josh Turnquist 18.

Backing them up nicely were Austin Barbeln with 13, Chase Cleveland 11 and Garrett Hol 10.

Rogers, St. Michael-Albertville and Buffalo are all 3-1, and Big Lake is 3-2. Buffalo beat STMA 63-57 Friday night, the Knights’ first conference loss.

Rogers’ next foe is STMA, there Tuesday.

Austin Poe sank 22 points and Jared Rudlag 16 for the Hornets (6-9 overall).
