Jonna Curtis scored the tying and winning goals on power plays as Elk River-Zimmerman pulled out a 6-5, overtime win over Maple Grove on the Crimson’s ice on Tuesday evening.
Two goals by Jordan McLaughlin and one each by Josie Brown and Emily Heid kept the Elks in the game as Maple Grove kept the pressure on.
With just 25 seconds left in regulation, Curtis connected with assists by Madison Lehn and Kaylee Forster.
The overtime lasted 13 minutes and 15 seconds before Curtis knocked in her 32nd goal of the season with assists by Brown and Forster.
Maple Grove, just 6-8 in conference and 10-9 overall, has given the Elks (12-2, 16-3-1) two tough games, with the Elks winning 2-1 on Dec. 6.
Forster had three assists, Brown and Abby Kratzke two each, and Lehn and Curtis one each.
Maddie Woo scored twice and Summer Thibodeau, Steph Veldhuis, and Courtney Umland one each for the Crimson, who outshot the Elks 36-33.
In goal were Tori Herrmann for the Elks (31 saves) and Taylor McKenna for the Crimson (27 saves).
The Elks will play at Duluth’s consolidated team on Friday evening.
